It all began way back in the early 1920s, when husband and wife duo, Charles Alexander See II and Florence MacLean Wilson See, decided to take their chances in the U.S. Together with Charles’ widowed mother, Mary Wiseman See, the three Canadians wanted to find out if this new country will bring them a sweet future.
And what a sweet future was in store for them in another country! Relying on the elder See’s recipes (which were used in their store in Canada), the sweet treats that they made was such a success that they soon had multiple stores under their name.
As a family-first company, See’s Candies continued to prosper the next following decades. Seeing the massive profit that the brand has been generating, multinational conglomerate, Berkshire Hathaway, purchased See’s Candies last 1972 for the amazing sum of $25 million!
