It’s All in the Family
The gold rush brought not only riches – it introduced some chocolate goodies as well. Etienne Guittard, who travelled all the way from France to California in the hopes of striking it rich during the mid 1800s, brought chocolates during his trip.
Instead of actually mining for gold, Guittard got a different (and maybe even better!) source of profit – other miners were actually paying a premium for the outstanding chocolates the Frenchman has! Seeing the potential, Guittard went back to his country to finetune his skill!
Come 1868, Guittard went back to California – this time to open a chocolate shop instead! Success soon came, with Guittard helming a strong business. His family soon helped out, and retained the elder’s Guittard recipe and practices to keep the special chocolates as real as possible.
And even more than the amazing chocolate, the Guittard family still lives out another important merit from the company – to give back to the community! As such, Guittard Chocolate continues to have lots of programs to support all sorts of charitable programs!
